For the Coastal Flood Statement, up to one half foot of inundation above ground level expected in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline. * WHERE...Northwest Suffolk County. * WHEN...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, until 3 AM EDT early this morning. For the Coastal Flood Statement, late tonight. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in the more vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline. Some roads and low lying properties including parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes and businesses with basements near the waterfront will experience minor flooding.

Every year on Long Island residents and visitors are greeted by a familiar wet, winter condition: snow. Love it or hate it, there's no getting around the annual piling of powder fresh snow on Long Island lawns, streets and buildings. While small amounts of snow tend not to affect many Long Islanders, once the inches start increasing so do the chances of school closures!

School closures too are an annual happening on Long Island during the wintertime. While kids and students anticipate and look forward to snow days, the same is not always true for parents who then have to deal with the hassle of finding out whether or not their child’s school is open or closed for the day – or days for that matter.
